Ingredients
Oatmeal – Often called a poor man’s food in history, it is an excellent source of nutrition, especially with the added protein to stabilize blood sugar. It’s great for cholesterol and if you want to feel fuller at breakfast.
It’s generally considered an affordable option for breakfast. When you are buying for a large family on a budget, this is an ingredient that stretches! As far as time and cleanup goes, it doesn’t get much easier than overnight oats.
raisins – My family loves raisins and although we don’t consume a lot of dried fruits do to the high sugar content, we do appreciate how they flavor in moderation and use them to sweeten the oatmeal. It truly doesn’t take much.
frozen blueberries – Studies have shown these are a great way to help with attention and focus. If you can, put these on the table every morning for your family for breakfast, especially before school! Check out this recent study from king’s College London on the effects of blueberries.
